Found on a stunning stretch of the Wild Coast at the end of a gravel track (which can safely be negotiated by a regular saloon car), Mboyti River Lodge feels like an isolated slice of heaven you’ve stumbled on before anyone else knows about it. The décor is rustic, with lots of varnished wooden flooring, wicker furniture and muted earthen tones, all set in immaculately manicured gardens overlooking the sea. Mboyti is great for kids, with a jungle gym, children’s pool and child minders available for hire. Birding, canoeing, fishing and hiking are all possible from the lodge, and there are some stunning waterfalls nearby: it’s a great base from which to explore some of the best aspects of the Wild Coast.
