Camps Bay is the sun-kissed suburb of Cape Town that echoes the laid-back lifestyle of somewhere like California, and The Bay Hotel is entirely in keeping with these surroundings. The modern exterior has an almost art deco feel to it thanks to the curved white balconies, whilst the interior is simple and unpretentious. In the rooms, the tones are subtle and earthy: nothing is allowed to take away from the views, either over the Lions Head and the Twelve Apostles mountain ridge, or over the wonderful beach, where locals and visitors alike relax or go surfing. The pool is a decent size, surrounded by wooden sunloungers and next to the cocktail bar, and for further relaxation, there is a spa. The focus at The Bay is on enjoying Camps Bay as much as possible, whether it is just lapping up the views, enjoying a sundowner looking over the beach, or eating local produce in the fine restaurant.
