Isandlwana Lodge enjoys arguably the best position of all the lodges in The Battlefields. It is literally built into the cliff facing the hill of Isandlwana in the shape of a shield. Directly above the lodge is the spot where the Zulu commander stood on the day of the battle, and spread out in front of the lodge is the sweep of the battlefield itself, now marked by solemn cairns and memorials. The lodge itself is an appropriate mix of African architecture with colonial influences, all designed to make the absolute most of the amazing views over Isandlwana. Famed for the late Rob Gerrard as the resident historian, a former British military man who has steeped himself in the lore of the Anglo-Zulu war. His colleagues are superb guides who will make the battles come alive for you.
